Meeting the needs of utilities to develop maintenance strategies and solutions for managing aging equipment, components, and structures through sampling, inspection, multi-disciplinary testing and evaluation, and risk assessment and reliability analysis.

Areas of Focus

Setting the department apart from competitors are its capabilities for multidisciplinary testing and analyses. Supported by other in-house labs, investigators can go beyond sampling and inspection to conduct reliability and life data analyses based on mechanical, materials, and electrical test results to predict the remaining life of a component and quantify the probability of failure for a given time window.

The group also conducts routine nondestructive testing (NDT) inspections and dielectric testing of aerial devices and insulated tools such as bucket trucks, hot-sticks, and linemen safety equipment to ensure the equipment is safe for use.
