HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT TESTING

With the emerging hydrogen fuel industry arises many complications regarding material compatibility issues. Powertech Labs has developed equipment to satisfy this mandate for very specific material testing in gaseous hydrogen environments. To assess a material’s performance in a pressurized hydrogen atmosphere, Powertech can perform a variety of mechanical tests, such as hydrogen embrittlement testing, in pressures up to 700 bar (~10,000 psi).

Hydrogen Embrittlement Tests

  • Pressurized hydrogen tensile tests
  • Tensile tests of hydrogen charged specimens
  • Incremental increasing load tests
  • Sustained load hydrogen soak
  • Fracture toughness evaluation
  • Fatigue crack growth rate tests
  • Thermal desorption quantification of solute hydrogen
  • Disk rupture test
  • Threshold stress intensity test
  • Permeability and diffusivity coefficient determination
