High Current Lab

Dr. Jorge Hollman is a Principal Engineer and Senior Manager with the Substations Technology and Testing sector at Powertech Labs. With over 20 years of experience in the energy industry, he is a recognized power systems expert and has experience in modelling, transients, equipment specification and performance in planning and operations. At Powertech, Jorge leads the High Current Technology Laboratory and the Substations Studies and Equipment Applications department.

The High Current Technologies Lab team is specialized in evaluation and failure analysis of high-current components including connectors and fuses, utilization testing of energy meters and storage batteries, identification of SF6 leaks using optical gas imaging and thermographic assessments, among others.

Mr. Hamish Miller is a Project Test Engineer whose responsibilities include testing transmission, substation, distribution and other equipment to ensure conformance with industry standards. He also performs failure analysis of electrical equipment and works with international clients to resolve issues with high voltage and high current testing or failure analysis.

Mr. John Gutierrez is an Electrical Technician for the T&D Services department at Powertech Labs. He is responsible for the preparation of high current cycling, circuit design for fault current testing, as well as testing for CT/PT, CB, Insulators, lugs, fuse cut-outs and ground cable/rods. He is often organizing data and figures for reports, and using equipment such as transformers, DAQ, forklifts, slings, and hand-tools to complete his daily tasks.
