Transmission & Distribution Equipment

The High Voltage Lab is equipped to test the complete range of transmission and distribution equipment, including, but not limited to:

• Insulators, including supporting hardware and fittings
• Switchgear including reclosers, circuit breakers, air disconnects, metal-clad switchgear, and fuse cutouts
• Transformers (instrument transformers, power transformers, and voltage regulators)
• Bushings
• Cables
• Wildlife guards
• Crossarms

Testing capabilities include power frequency withstand and flashover (dry and wet), lightning impulse and flashover, switching impulse (dry and wet), steep front impulse, corona, partial discharge, and RIV. The experienced lab staff work with clients to test equipment to the latest IEEE, IEC, ANSI, CSA, and other international standards as well as customized test procedures. The High Voltage Lab works closely alongside the Mechanical, High Power, and High Current Labs to offer the complete suite of transmission and distribution testing services.

Transformer Tests:

Standards including but not limited to Per IEEE C57.12.90 and C57.12.91

Powertech has capabilities to test both single phase and 3 phase transformers up to 4.5MVA

• Polarity, Phase relation, Ratio, Dissipation factor and resistance measurements
• Partial discharge
• Commutating reactance
• Dielectric Tests: Applied, Induced and Impulse tests
• No load, load loss, impedance voltage
• Short circuit tests
• Temperature rise tests
• Audible sound measurement tests
