Powertech Initiates Multi-year Study on the Use of Paper Degradation Products for Diagnostics and Condition Assessment

Powertech has initiated a multi-year project with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) titled "The Use of Paper Degradation Products for Diagnostics and Condition Assessment".  The objectives of the project are to identify, measure and ultimately develop on-line monitoring techniques for specific compounds in transformer oil that originate from paper breakdown. The information will be used to diagnose transformers for the presence of hot spots, assess the loss of life and monitor the extent of damage on transformers during deliberate overload or emergency conditions.
