Powertech Builds Hydrogen Fueling Station and Converts Vehicles to Hydrogen for Demonstration Project

October 23, 2007

Powertech was part of a Sacré-Davey Innovations news release on October 19, announcing the Kick-Off of hydrogen demonstrations associated with the Integrated Waste Hydrogen Utilization Project (IWHUP).  The IWHUP project involved capturing and purifying waste Hydrogen that was being vented to atmosphere at a chemical plant in North Vancouver.  This Hydrogen is now being used to power a fuel cell that suppliers power to a car wash in North Vancouver and to supply fuel to a small fleet of Hydrogen vehicles in the Greater Vancouver area.

Powertech’s role in the project was to design and construct a Hydrogen filling station, now operating in North Vancouver, as well as to have 9 GMC Sierra pick-up trucks converted to burn Hydrogen instead of gasoline.  The trucks emit no CO and have significantly less NOx emissions than their gasoline predecessors.

Two of these trucks remain stationed at Powertech. The attached picture illustrates one of the trucks and the modular filling station now located in North Vancouver.
